ACIS (NOAA Regional Climate Centers)
data.rcc-acis.org
Daily and monthly US climate observations and gridded climate data from the Applied Climate Information System operated by the six NOAA Regional Climate Centers: station temperature, precipitation, snowfall, snow depth and degree days back to the 1800s, plus PRISM and NRCC interpolated grids and the county, climate-division, river-basin and NWS forecast-office boundaries used to select them.
GET /v1/data/acis/area-boundary1Request
Which kind of geographic area the id belongs to: county, climdiv, cwa, basin or state.
The area's identifier, matching the area type: a 5-digit county FIPS (36001), a climate division (NE01), a three-letter CWA (BOX), an 8-digit HUC (01090003) or a two-letter state abbreviation (RI).

Licence: ACIS publishes no reuse grant. Its only terms page, "Terms of Use and Disclaimer", is a liability and data-quality notice: "Climate products and tools are developed by the Regional Climate Centers to provide users with a means to routinely access recent weather and climate data. While applied research has demonstrated that the use of such data in decision making can reduce risk and lower a user's cost, it must be pointed out that near-real-time data are preliminary in nature and sometimes contain errors. Although care is taken to remove known errors, it is possible that some data will change after receipt of written records and final quality control steps. Users are therefore forewarned to consider any negative impact that errant data might have on their business and use preliminary data and information at their own risk"; "The Regional Climate Centers are not responsible for the misuse or abuse of data provided through our services."; "Through use of the data services through the ACIS website, you automatically agree to the terms of use and disclaimer." The site footer asserts the opposite of an open licence: "2017 (c) Regional Climate Centers. ALL Rights Reserved." Nothing on the site permits commercial use or redistribution in writing, so both are set false and we pass the data through claiming nothing. The underlying records are also mixed provenance and licensed per dataset, not blanket: NWS/NCEI station observations are US Government public-domain works, but the RCCs themselves are university-hosted (Cornell, LSU, DRI, Illinois, Nebraska, North Carolina) rather than federal agencies, and the PRISM grids (grid=21) are produced by the PRISM Climate Group at Oregon State University under their own terms. A caller who needs redistribution rights must go to the originating dataset, not to ACIS.
Ask with this source
A prompt for your agent that names this source and how to call it through the crw MCP.
Geographic area boundary
Use ACIS (NOAA Regional Climate Centers) (acis) from fastCRW Pergamon, capability "Geographic area boundary" (area-boundary). You hold an area code - a county FIPS, climate division, CWA, HUC or state abbreviation - and want its actual geometry to map or to test points against. Example options: area=county, id=36001. Use the crw MCP tools: crw_find_data to confirm the source and its options, then crw_get_data with provider "acis" and capability "area-boundary". Tell me the credits used and cite the licence from the response. If the crw MCP tools are missing, install them with: npx -y crw-mcp install --api-key <your fastCRW API key>
Geographic areas in a state
Use ACIS (NOAA Regional Climate Centers) (acis) from fastCRW Pergamon, capability "Geographic areas in a state" (area-metadata). You need the codes for the areas inside a state before you can filter stations or grids by county FIPS, climate division, CWA or HUC. Example options: area=county, state=RI, meta=id,name, bbox. Use the crw MCP tools: crw_find_data to confirm the source and its options, then crw_get_data with provider "acis" and capability "area-metadata". Tell me the credits used and cite the licence from the response. If the crw MCP tools are missing, install them with: npx -y crw-mcp install --api-key <your fastCRW API key>
All station data for a state or area
Use ACIS (NOAA Regional Climate Centers) (acis) from fastCRW Pergamon, capability "All station data for a state or area" (area-station-data). You want the same observations for all stations across a named area at once, rather than looping one station at a time. Example options: state=RI, sdate=2024-01-01, edate=2024-01-07. Use the crw MCP tools: crw_find_data to confirm the source and its options, then crw_get_data with provider "acis" and capability "area-station-data". Tell me the credits used and cite the licence from the response. If the crw MCP tools are missing, install them with: npx -y crw-mcp install --api-key <your fastCRW API key>
All station data in a bounding box
Use ACIS (NOAA Regional Climate Centers) (acis) from fastCRW Pergamon, capability "All station data in a bounding box" (bbox-station-data). You want observations for everything inside a map viewport or arbitrary rectangle that does not line up with a state or county. Example options: bbox=-71.9,41.1,-71.0,42.0, sdate=2024-01-01, edate=2024-01-07. Use the crw MCP tools: crw_find_data to confirm the source and its options, then crw_get_data with provider "acis" and capability "bbox-station-data". Tell me the credits used and cite the licence from the response. If the crw MCP tools are missing, install them with: npx -y crw-mcp install --api-key <your fastCRW API key>
