Australian Bureau of Statistics

data.api.abs.gov.au

Australian official statistics over SDMX: CPI, labour force, population and every other published dataflow.

Showing the catalogue

1Request

A scheme id from the topic catalogue. The subject trees are ECONOMY, LABOUR, HEALTH, INDUSTRY, PEOPLE, ENVIRONMENT and SNAPSHOTS; the rest are Census collections (CENSUS_2011, CENSUS_2016, CENSUS_2026, C21_LGA and other C21_ geography cuts) plus DATA_BY_REGION.

Without it you get bare category names only. Set 'parentsandsiblings' to also receive the dataflows filed under the topic - that turns this into the subject search for the whole API (109 KB for ECONOMY).

'referencestubs' keeps the attached dataflows down to ids and names when you asked for references and do not want their long descriptions.

Ask with this source

A prompt for your agent that names this source and how to call it through the crw MCP.

  • Topic scheme contents

Use Australian Bureau of Statistics (abs) from fastCRW Pergamon, capability "Topic scheme contents" (categoryscheme). You know the subject you care about, such as inflation or labour, and want the ABS datasets filed under it rather than scanning the whole catalogue. Example options: schemeId=ECONOMY, references=parentsandsiblings, detail=referencestubs. Use the crw MCP tools: crw_find_data to confirm the source and its options, then crw_get_data with provider "abs" and capability "categoryscheme". Tell me the credits used and cite the licence from the response. If the crw MCP tools are missing, install them with: npx -y crw-mcp install --api-key <your fastCRW API key>

  • Topic scheme catalogue

Use Australian Bureau of Statistics (abs) from fastCRW Pergamon, capability "Topic scheme catalogue" (categoryschemes). You want to browse ABS statistics by subject and need the list of topic trees to start from. Use the crw MCP tools: crw_find_data to confirm the source and its options, then crw_get_data with provider "abs" and capability "categoryschemes". Tell me the credits used and cite the licence from the response. If the crw MCP tools are missing, install them with: npx -y crw-mcp install --api-key <your fastCRW API key>

  • Codelist codes

Use Australian Bureau of Statistics (abs) from fastCRW Pergamon, capability "Codelist codes" (codelist). You have a bare dimension code from an observation key and need the human label for it, or need the set of valid codes for a dimension. Example options: codelistId=CL_CPI_REGION, references=parents, detail=full. Use the crw MCP tools: crw_find_data to confirm the source and its options, then crw_get_data with provider "abs" and capability "codelist". Tell me the credits used and cite the licence from the response. If the crw MCP tools are missing, install them with: npx -y crw-mcp install --api-key <your fastCRW API key>

  • Codelist catalogue

Use Australian Bureau of Statistics (abs) from fastCRW Pergamon, capability "Codelist catalogue" (codelists). You want to find a controlled vocabulary by its subject, such as a region or industry classification, without first knowing which dataset uses it. Use the crw MCP tools: crw_find_data to confirm the source and its options, then crw_get_data with provider "abs" and capability "codelists". Tell me the credits used and cite the licence from the response. If the crw MCP tools are missing, install them with: npx -y crw-mcp install --api-key <your fastCRW API key>
