U.S. State Department Travel Advisories
SecurityUScadataapi.state.gov
The U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs' official travel advisories: a live, machine-readable feed of the Level 1 to Level 4 safety advisory the United States publishes for every destination worldwide, each with its headline risk level, the full advisory text naming the terrorism, crime, civil unrest, kidnapping, health or wrongful-detention risks behind it, the publication and last-updated timestamps and a link to the destination page.
Capabilities (2)
GET /v1/data/traveladvisories/advisories1 creditReturns every current U.S. travel advisory as an array of {Title, Link, Category, Summary, id, Published, Updated}, one row per destination (222 rows / ~537 KB as of October 2026; the feed is live, so both drift), with the Level 1-4 risk rating embedded in each Title and the full advisory text in Summary.
GET /v1/data/traveladvisories/advisory-by-country1 creditReturns the advisory rows filed under one State Department country code - usually one, sometimes several sub-destinations - each with its Level 1-4 Title, full HTML Summary, destination Link and Published/Updated timestamps.

The Bureau of Consular Affairs' Copyright & Disclaimer page (travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/copyright-disclaimer.html) states: "Links to travel.state.gov are welcomed. Unless a copyright is indicated, information on the Consular Affairs web site is in the public domain and may be copied and distributed without permission. Citation of the Bureau of Consular Affairs, U.S. State Department as source of the information is appreciated." The one carve-out on the same page is third-party material: "If a copyright is indicated on a photo, graphic, or other material, permission to copy these materials must be obtained from the original source. For photos without captions or with only partial captions, hold your cursor over the photo to view the 'alt tag' for any copyright information. Please note that many photos used on this website are copyrighted. Please note that the U.S. Government has an international copyright on Country Commercial Guides." Neither carve-out touches the advisory text this API serves, which carries no copyright indication. The page also disclaims endorsement: "Links to web sites outside the U.S. Federal Government or the use of trade, firm, or corporation names within the State Department web sites are for the convenience of the user. Such use does not constitute an official endorsement or approval by the U.S. State Department of any private sector web site, product, or service." Note that the data.gov harvest record for this dataset (catalog.data.gov/dataset/travel-advisories) shows no licence field at all - "License not specified", accessLevel "public" - so the public-domain grant above, from Consular Affairs itself, is the operative term, NOT a CC-BY statement in the CA data catalogue; cadatacatalog.state.gov is behind a Cloudflare block and could not be read. Quoted from the Wayback Machine capture of the Copyright & Disclaimer page, because travel.state.gov blocks this network's IP at Cloudflare.
