Open Topo Data
Geocodingapi.opentopodata.org
Elevation and bathymetry lookup for one or many coordinates from open raster datasets — SRTM, ASTER, NED, EU-DEM, Mapzen, ETOPO1, GEBCO, EMOD, BKG, Swisstopo and NZ DEM — returning a JSON elevation per point in a Google Elevation API-compatible shape.
Capabilities (2)
GET /v1/data/opentopodata/datasets1 creditReturns the datasets this instance is configured with, each with its name and any child datasets, so a caller can pick a valid dataset path segment.
GET /v1/data/opentopodata/elevation1 creditReturns one elevation in metres per requested location, read from the chosen raster dataset, with the resolved latitude and longitude echoed back; supports pipe-separated point lists, polyline input, path sampling and nearest/bilinear/cubic interpolation.
Licence
Open Topo Data publishes no licence for the API output. The documentation's only terms for the free public instance are limits: "Max 100 locations per request. Max 1 call per second. Max 1000 calls per day." The server software is MIT-licensed on GitHub (ajnisbet/opentopodata), but that grant covers the code, not the elevation data and not the responses. The elevation itself comes from third-party rasters which the site names by provider - USGS, NASA, NOAA, EEA, LINZ, BKG, Swisstopo, GEBCO, EMODnet, Mapzen - and their individual licences are not restated as a grant to us. Because the service grants nothing explicit over its output, we claim no rights: commercialUse and redistribution are both false.
