food-nutrition.canada.ca

Health Canada's Canadian Nutrient File, the national reference food composition database: nutrient values per 100 g for about 5,700 foods commonly eaten in Canada, with household serving-size conversion factors, refuse and cooking yield factors, and the full nutrient dictionary behind them, in English and French.

Capabilities (15)

GET /v1/data/canadiannutrientfile/food1 credit

Returns the single food record for one CNF food code: its code and full descriptive name.

food_codelang?
GET /v1/data/canadiannutrientfile/foods1 credit

Returns the entire CNF food index as a JSON array of {food_code, food_description} pairs - roughly 5,700 foods, which is the lookup table every other CNF capability is keyed on.

lang?
GET /v1/data/canadiannutrientfile/nutrient-amounts1 credit

Returns every nutrient measured for one food per 100 g edible portion: nutrient_value, standard_error, number_observation, nutrient_name_id, nutrient_web_name and nutrient_source_id, typically 70-105 rows covering macros, minerals, vitamins, amino acids and individual fatty acids.

food_codelang?
GET /v1/data/canadiannutrientfile/nutrient-group1 credit

Returns one nutrient group heading: its id, name and display order.

nutrient_group_idlang?
GET /v1/data/canadiannutrientfile/nutrient-groups1 credit

Returns the seven nutrient group headings that nutrients are filed under - Proximates, Other Carbohydrates, Minerals, Vitamins, Amino Acids, Lipids and Other components - each with its id and display order.

lang?
GET /v1/data/canadiannutrientfile/nutrient-name1 credit

Returns one nutrient definition: its code, symbol, unit, full name, INFOODS tagname, rounding precision and group.

nutrient_name_idlang?

Returns the full CNF nutrient dictionary: nutrient_name_id, nutrient_code, symbol, unit of measure, full name, INFOODS tagname, decimal precision, web display name and order, and nutrient_group_id.

lang?
GET /v1/data/canadiannutrientfile/nutrient-source1 credit

Returns one nutrient provenance record: its id, numeric code and description.

nutrient_source_idlang?
GET /v1/data/canadiannutrientfile/nutrient-sources1 credit

Returns the provenance codes CNF attaches to every nutrient value - analysed in a Canadian government lab, imputed, taken from USDA, calculated, and so on - with id, code and description.

lang?
GET /v1/data/canadiannutrientfile/refuse-amounts1 credit

Returns the inedible proportion of one food as a percentage, with the refuse description - bone, shell, peel, and so on.

food_codelang?
GET /v1/data/canadiannutrientfile/refuse-amounts-bulk1 credit

Returns the complete refuse table for every food in CNF - food code, description, percent refuse and refuse description.

lang?
GET /v1/data/canadiannutrientfile/serving-sizes1 credit

Returns the household measures defined for one food, each with a conversion_factor_value - the multiplier applied to the per-100 g nutrient values to get the amount in that measure - plus the measure name and the food description.

food_codelang?
GET /v1/data/canadiannutrientfile/serving-sizes-bulk1 credit

Returns the complete serving size table for every food in CNF - food code, description, measure name and conversion factor - about 2.4 MB in one response.

lang?
GET /v1/data/canadiannutrientfile/yield-amounts1 credit
